I agree with Richie. Surely the wisdom and intelligence of every ex-JW is worth at least two of current JW's.

I can't read the WT and AWAKE anymore
by Jez inhundreds of supplementary publications written by unnamed authors that can hide behind the watchtower and bible tract society and say anything without referencing it.
lately, i have been thinking that this is one of the reasons that the society does not encourage higher education.
try handing in an essay without your name on it, try not referencing your essay, try having no works cited, try to have only 1 works cited, try quoting out of context, try spewing statistics or numbers or trends in your essay with no reference or date, add ellipsis that only alert your instructor to the potential of hidden information, or try presenting as support for your thesis a third party quote.

My mother has them laying all over her house. I see but do not touch. There's just no point in burning the calories.

Is your congregation on medication?
by toby888 in.
over half my cong.
members have mental issues and are taking prozac or some other medication for depression or other mental problems.many are going or have gone to therapists... anyone have a similar situation?

I think that psychotrophic medication could have done some of my former "brothers and sisters" some good. Perhaps it should be distributed to the entire congregation through the water cooler?

Bible reading without the WT filter
by watch the tower inyou know even though i think the wt doctrine is mostly all garbage now, i still do believe that the bible is inspired from our creator.
the flaw in my understanding of it in the past was because i was interpreting it through the filter of the wts.
recently i have started clean slate and read the bible without the wt filter (easier said than done, your mind has a way of reverting back to what was programmed in there).

The thing that I find most enjoyable about reading the bible is: Without The Watchtower magazine telling me what the scripture means, I can determine for myself what the context of the scripture is and therefore, am able to see through the smoke screen of lies and deceit that the WBTS uses to control the rank and file JW.

Street work
by pratt1 in.
maybe this only happens in urban neighborhoods but when i was growing up, many dubs engaged in street work, basically offering the magazines to people on the street as they walked to a destination.. usually it was an area with a lot of foot traffic at a time when many people would travel the area.. did you or people in your congo engage in this and were there any funny stories relating to this practice?

There were those in my hall that did this type of street work. I never had the privilege myself.

How the Internet Means 'The End' for Apostates and Opposers of the Society
by slimboyfat inthe received wisdom is that the internet has dramatically damaged the ability of the watchtower society to gain and retain followers.
there was a very eloquent article to that effect written some time ago by a commentator who attempted to buttress his argument with reference to the postmodern condition and the breakdown of metanarratives in todays secular society, nay, even the come-back for enlightenment notions of truth.
in the 1970/80s there were major challenges to the watchtowers theology (great crowd in heaven) and chronology (1914) in norway, alberta canada, dublin ireland and in the newyork bethel itself: but the damage caused by those involved in the dissent was limited because knowledge was dispersed merely through personal contact and minimal use of obscure publications that seldom met the eyes of witnesses innocent of the watchtowers doctrinal and chronological vacillations in any case.

If raised JW - or in while young - how strict were your parents?
by Jamelle ini'm just curious to know where my parents register on the scale of strictness...
growing up, i felt absolutely smothered by my parents (mostly my mother).
the things i couldn't do were above and beyond the limitations put on the other young people in our hall.
-
Darth Yhwh
Aww, lola, relax. I was teasing you! I agree, that no young child, especially a male child, should grow up without being able to experience such things. Fortunatly for myself, my parents weren't that strict.

Wow! I am free
by watch the tower inever since i stopped going to the meetings, i feel so free and liberated!
i've been a witness my whole life up to this point and never could imagine how this could have felt!
no more guilt trips, verbal spankings and phony superficial relationships.. they try to scare you into thinking that if you dare leave jehovah's organization tm, your life will be a barren wasteland, be overcome by satan, turn into a drug addict and never find joy and meaning in your life again.

It's been over a decade since I've gone to a meeting but occasionally I'll still stop and notice that its a "meeting night" and Im doing my own thing. Priceless!
